All qualified umpires must hold a current individual England Netball affiliation in order that their qualification is valid. This affiliation can be done through a club or directly with their county association. Qualified umpires should be prepared to support their qualification and affiliation by producing their umpiring certificate and affiliation card if requested to do so.
Schools Affiliation
Primary and secondary schools affiliated to England Netball through a member County have a single affiliation number.
This affiliation number is acceptable for attendance at umpiring courses.
However, any teacher or pupil of an affiliated school needs to be individually affiliated to England Netball, through a member County, to take the C award test and to be eligible to umpire in Local or County Leagues or at National Tournaments.
If a teacher chooses to use the School Affiliation Number for a C award test, or, after gaining the C award qualification, decides to be affiliated only to a school, please be aware that the C award qualification will only allow that teacher to umpire in his/her own school and not at any Schools tournaments, Local or County Leagues or National tournaments.
Please contact the Affiliations Secretary/Treasurer of your member county for details of individual affiliation.

FAQs
Q. Do I have to attend a B Award Course before applying for my assessment?
A. You must attend a B Award course or have had one-to-one mentoring before applying for an assessment. If possible, you should attend a B Award course, as it will identify the test requirements, the personal skills and the techniques required for the B Award. If a B award course has not been available for you to attend, you must have had one-to-one mentoring before you apply for your assessment
Q. Can umpires go out of County and Region to attend a B course?
A. Yes.
Q. Do I have to have a mentor before applying for my assessment?
A. No.
It is currently not mandatory to be mentored before applying for an assessment. However, it will be helpful to you if you can work with a mentor (ideally one who is a B Award tester), who can help you to progress to the appropriate standard. Please contact your County Umpiring Secretary for details of mentors.
Q. How do I arrange my B Award Assessment?
A. Please contact your County Umpiring Secretary to request an assessment. You will need to show the CUS that you have been on a B Award course or have had one-to-one mentoring
The matches used for assessments will be of a standard equivalent to that of a test. Please be aware that a successful assessment means that the assessor considers that the candidate is of a suitable standard to take the B Award test: it is not a guarantee that the candidate will pass the B Award test.
Q. Can my mentor take my assessment?
A. No. Your mentor must not be involved with your assessment. The assessor can be from another county.
England Netball London & South East Regional Unit
Q. What is expected of me at an assessment?
A. Candidates will be expected to be match fit and the assessor will only sign the B application form if this fitness is maintained for the whole duration of the match. The assessor will also be looking at the candidate’s quality of umpiring and her/his personal skills.
Please refer to the B Award Application form for details of the test requirements.
Q. Who is responsible for the travelling expenses of the assessor?
A. The candidate.
The candidate should check with the assessor before the date of the assessment what her/his expenses are likely to be.
Q. Is the candidate paid by the team for umpiring when being assessed or tested?
A. No.
Counties must make this clear to the teams involved in the assessment.
Q. What happens if I am injured after my assessment?
A. The form must be submitted to the L & SE Regional Umpiring Secretary as soon as possible after the date of a successful assessment.
If there is more than six months between the date of the assessment and the date of the test, the Region reserves the right to ask for another assessment. If this delay is due to a significant injury or illness /surgery, another assessment will be required before a test can be set up for the candidate.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that, during the waiting period for a test, s/he maintains their fitness and quality of umpiring.
Q. When will I know about my B Award Test?
A. The test is set up by the Region. The test is (usually) set up out of County. Detailed instructions will be sent to the candidates and testers in plenty of time.
Q. What should I do if I am injured/unwell when I receive my test date?
A. This is a personal decision for the candidate.
However, if you do not think that you will be fully fit on the test date, please consider whether it would be better to ask for another test date, when you expect to be fully fit and can perform to your best.
