Louise umpired at school from an early age and achieved the following awards:
- Beginner Umpire at 16
- C Award passed at 17 - 17/05/1999
- B Award passed at 22 – 25/10/2003
- A Award passed at 25 - 01/02/2006
- International passed in December 2009
Louise has been a Super League umpire for two/three years. Has umpired at the European Championships in Malta and Wales and recently in Scotland and at the U21 world championships in the Cook Islands this year.
Louise’s major triumph was to overcome a very serious spinal operation (August 2007) that took her out of sport for 6 months. She had to work hard to get back to full fitness but was determined to get back on the court to umpire again!
She umpires at a number of schools tournaments, the National Schools Tournaments and has recently helped mentor umpires at the Surrey Schools Netball Finals. She also still finds time to umpire at Club Fixtures when she can.
Louise is an inspiration to young umpires showing them what can be achieved if you are committed. She has worked hard to ensure that her umpiring is based on a sound knowledge of the rules. She has learnt how to deliver that knowledge firmly and confidently ensuring that any game she umpires is controlled with skill and fairness. She is able to exercise her skills, in this way, at all levels of the game, and it is a joy, not just to watch her umpire, but to see the progression of the play on court that naturally responds to her skills.
Louise is much respected by all who watch her umpire but more importantly by the players, themselves, on court. That is the best testament to a skilful, competent and dedicated umpire. Well done to you Louise from all in Surrey Netball.
