Greenacres Netball League

The Greenacres Netball League evolved in 2001 from an unrecognised League operating in Beckenham, Kent. It was played indoors on a carpet surface. The courts were not the correct size, the netting around the court was still in play and skilful players could use this to advance play. Basically Netball was being played but could not actually be classified as the game. The Kent County Netball DO and the nearest local League were aware of the activity but could not get involved. When the landlord decided to sell the site to developers he purchased the site in Warlingham, and offered a lease to enable existing business to continue. Thus the “Greenacres Netball League” was created. Obviously, some teams found the relocation too far to travel and the League was reduced from approximately 20 teams to 16. Currently 32 teams in 4 Divisions.

We play continuously throughout the year on Tuesday evenings. Cost £21 per team.

The aim of this League is to provide an opportunity for people to play Netball in a friendly, competitive and social atmosphere. Those who have not played for a while and want to return find it less intimidating. We also offer a link for players/teams to progress, if they wish, to a higher standard, as they grow more confident in their play. We have already had one-person talent spotted for the County! We are keen to provide progressive links with local Croydon Netball League and players are now integrating into the Croydon Netball League on a Saturday, the Evening League on a Thursday and the Spring & Summer League.

The League has come a long way since starting. The games are now played on full size courts and outside in the elements!

Teams have attended meetings where the Rules of the League and the game, were explained, some players have not played for a while! The benefits of membership of the England Netball Association are stressed, especially with regard to the insurance, which is included in their affiliation. Every player must affiliate to EN. England Netball is been very supportive of what we are trying to achieve here at Greenacres.

We are now supporting umpires by mentoring those who would like to become qualified. Over the past few seasons more than ten people have passed their Umpiring “C” Award. We welcome anyone who would like to be trained. Give the number below a call and we will put you in touch with the relevant people. You can learn in a non intimating environment as we have players of all standards and abilities to test your knowledge, observation and application of the rules.

The future plans for Greenacres are to have three new courts by the beginning of next season or sooner.

We run Skills Days, Holiday Courses and Junior Leagues on a Tuesday. This is run in accordance with England Netball Strategy.

We want to encourage active lifestyles for all the family.

If you live in or around Warlingham, Surrey and would like to play – you don’t have to have a team, please call :
